We have been learning about what it means to be Firewise for the last few weeks. We had a visit from a real life firefighter, we heard a smoke alarm and practised getting down, getting low, and getting out FAST! We also talked about having a safe place at home where all family members go when they hear the fire alarm.
You can support your child's learning at home by organising a 'safe place' and practising getting to it fast if they hear the smoke alarm. Also, ensure your child knows their address and how to dial 111. Most importantly, make sure your house has a working smoke alarm.
We learnt that there are different sorts of fire. Fire outside, fire inside, heaters, candles, barbeques, matches, lighters, hangi and more!
We learnt that matches and lighters are tools for adults, not children. If we find them, we must take them to an adult straight away to keep them safe.
We made Firewise puppets to read along with the story!
