Room 25 Newsletter, Term 3, 2017

Room 25 Newsletter, Term 3, 2017 We are looking forward to a fun-filled and action-packed third term ahead. This term we will be focusing on: How to be a ‘cool Knighton kid’, learning about ‘persistence’ : what it means and how to show it! From week 2 we will be taking part in the Firewise programme - we will learn what it means to be firewise and will even have a visit from some real-life firefighters. Then we will be learning all about animals - looking at what animals need to survive and building our own enclosures. We will be ending this unit with a trip to the zoo in week 7. In maths we will start off by looking at the concepts of multiplication and division, then we will focus on simple fractions for the rest of the term. In literacy we will be extending our letter/sound/word knowledge and enjoying reading and writing in lots of different ways. In particular we will be focusing on recount writing and descriptions. Friendship helpers

We are lucky to have our very own friendship helpers group in Room 25. This group of 4 girls have a big job to do! They have to create posters in class to show us how to be good friends, they have to have meetings to discuss how to keep their own friendships running smoothly, and they even have to sort out friendship problems in the class. If we want help from the friendship helpers, we can write to them, leave the letter in the mailbox, and they will help us to sort it out at lunchtime.

Learning about Jordan

We were very lucky to have Jood's Mum and Dad come in and teach us about the country they are from, Jordan. We learnt that Jordan is a long way away from New Zealand- you have to fly on an aeroplane for many hours to get there. We learnt that even though Jordan is a smaller country than New Zealand, there are more people- nearly 10 million! This means that the people need to live in houses called apartments. Apartments can fit lots of people in a small space. We learnt that there are snakes in Jordan, but no fish, as the country has no sea surrounding it, only other countries. We learnt that people in Jordan speak a different language called Arabic, and have a different alphabet from us. This is the Arabic alphabet: Then we got to eat some special Jordanian bread- we thought it was different to the foods we usually eat, but really yummy. Some of us wanted more and more!
