In small groups we made some apartments out of blocks- there was a lot of 'positional' talk while construction was happening. How tall and wide to build the apartment; using words like: behind, in front, beside, next to, before, after, underneath, inside, outside, on top of, etc. Knowing and using these words in daily talk helps children to describe their experiences, understand instructions, and builds a solid base for learning new maths and literacy concepts.
Using these words in everyday conversation with your child will help reinforce the new learning in class.
